TSH test measures the amount of thyroid stimulation hormone (TSH) in the blood.
The TSH test is done to evaluate thyroid function and/or symptoms of hyper or hypothyroidism. TSH testing is used to diagnose a thyroid disorder in a person or to monitor thyroid replacement therapy in people with hypothyroidism, or to diagnose and monitor female infertility problems and to help evaluate the function of the pituitary gland.
Normal values range from 0.4 - 4.0 milli-international units per liter (mIU/L).
*Reference ranges are provided as general guidance only. To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
None needed; however, certain medications can interfere with the TSH test, so tell your health practitioner about any drugs that you are taking. If you take thyroid hormone as treatment for thyroid disease, it is recommended that your blood sample be drawn before you take your dose for that day.
